There was a grief among the people,
in that northern Timmons town

When somebody yelled fire, the mine is burnin down

Then rushing to the surface came those McIntyre men

It was February second in the year of sixty five

For men to fight the flame

With oxygen and gas masks, they worked for a month of days

In a 150 degrees of heat, they faught that gassy blaze

The deadly gas kept rising, in the McIntyre high

For nearly a thousand miners now, ther was no work below
