Margery

Pearls Before Swine

Tom original: C Capotraste: Sem capotraste Acordes: 0
C
From their classic 1970 album, 'The Use of Ashes'.
Tabbed by James McKinnon.
Like a lot of 'Pearls' songs, the bare bones are a simply picked arpeggio by Tom Rapp,
with the other band members adding substance and colour with various and wonderfully
eccentric instruments. I have taken some of this from the intro to the original recording
(as much as possible), but mainly from a live radio broadcast where the instrumentation is
lighter, so Tom's picking can be more easily followed. Even so, there are a couple of guitars at
work, so it's not easy separating one from the other. The chords are basically D, C, F and G
and you can really do whatever you like with them, using this simple pattern as a skeleton
to build your own sound around.
Tuning: Standard.
/ = Accent.
Intro;
4/4
Margery, I am a wanderer. The ocean is my home.
In the green salt magic of the sea and the myster - ies of
  sand.
There are super - market maladies, a sickness on the hill.
All the good men are in prison. There's where.
                                                                 something
                                                                          wrong
                                                                               some-
Wisdom hides in bullets now, friendship in a sneer
and I must find out why, be - fore I come back here.
All the rest of the verses continue on in the same way, except for the outro, as played at the end of
the reprised first verse, as seen below.
Other verses:
A friend is in the army now
Another is in jail.
There's a blackness on the land
Nobody is well.
Margery, Oh! Margery. Everything's in chains
And everyone is blinded to
The sanctity of change.
There are prayers to paralysis,
A mask for misery.
And everyone is so far away
From where he ought to be.
Margery, I must go now,
I must go.
Until I find this land at peace
And everyone comes home.
Reprise Intro: (Note: the outro of the last three bars is actually played on a second guitar [probably
Jon Tooker], but works just as well as transcribed here.)
Margery, I am a wanderer. The ocean is my home.
In the green salt magic of the sea and the myster - ies of
    sand.
